The fourth PET Project donated supplies for 50 transfusions to the Paediatric Cardiology Unit of UCH, with two consultant paediatric cardiologists present.
The PET Project 4.0 held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the Children Outpatient Clinic, UCH, Ibadan. Medical supplies for 50 Partial Exchange Transfusions were donated to the Paediatric Cardiology Unit of University College Hospital, Ibadan, and handed to the nurses of the unit.
The programme had in attendance Dr. B.E. Adebayo, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, UCH, and Dr. Afolayan, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, UCH, together with children with congenital heart diseases and their parents, nurses and resident doctors of the UCH Paediatric Cardiology Unit, and volunteers of the organisation.
A Partial Exchange Transfusion keeps a child with Tetralogy of Fallot safe from the dangerously thick blood the condition can cause while the child waits for heart surgery. Each edition stocks the unit with the consumables for 50 of these procedures, so that no child waits on money before treatment.
