Board of Directors

Dr. Olanrewaju Adams Amusat

Founder/Executive Director

Olanrewaju Amusat is a compassionate health care advocate and an enthusiastic civic leader passionate about SDG 3, with over three years of experience in the non-profit sector. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where he finished in the top 5% of his class. His academic excellence was recognized with the Dr. V. A. Awosika and Ibadan Medical Specialists’ Group (IMSG) Award for the best in MBBS Part 1 Examination and the Princess Olowu Memorial Prize in Neonatology.

Olanrewaju’s leadership extends beyond the organization; he is an alumnus of Barack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and a recipient of the YALI Leadership Award in recognition of his visionary guidance and undaunting leadership. Olanrewaju also serves as a mentor for the YALI Regional Leadership Center, West Africa, Accra, having mentored about five fellows of the YALI RLC program. Driven by the passion to improve the health system, Olanrewaju earned the Leadership and Management in Health Certificate from the University of Washington. His vision is clear: a world where good health and wellbeing of people is the order of the day. Olanrewaju’s blend of medical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to community health positions him uniquely to guide SmileBuilders Initiative towards significant impact in combating NCDs in Nigeria.

Mr. Oloruntoba Ajayi

Director of Projects

Oloruntoba Ajayi is a visionary medical student from the prestigious University of Ibadan and a global health enthusiast committed to combating Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Nigeria and worldwide. His passion for global health, education, leadership, innovation, and medical research is evident in his forward-thinking approach to bridging the gap between preventive and curative medicine. An award-winning essayist and thought leader, Oloruntoba has written for several organizations, including DatelineHealth Africa, a Delaware-based health publication focused on health promotion in Africa.

His leadership extends to volunteering with the Nigerian Medical Students Association and serving as the Programs Officer of the Technical Working Group on Pandemic Preparedness, Prevention, and Response (3PR) for the Federation of African Medical Students. Committed to continuous learning, Oloruntoba has received certifications from the World Health Organization (WHO) in Foresight Approaches in Global Public Health and Health Emergency Readiness for Response Operations, as well as a Global Health certification from the University of Copenhagen. His unwavering belief that there is always more to do to foster a healthier globe drives his invaluable contributions to SmileBuilders Initiative.

Mr. Dimeji Olawuyi

Director of Research and Innovation

Dimeji Olawuyi is a dynamic 4th-year medical student at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, bringing a passion for research, capacity building, and social impact to SmileBuilders Initiative. His dedication to advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 and 6 is evident in his scholarly work, with co-authorship in numerous papers across both local and international journals. Dimeji has presented abstracts on telemedicine and COVID-19 at prestigious scientific research conferences, including the 2023 POHER-CBUSOM-SSMSA Medical Research and Mentorship Symposium, the 36th FAMSA General Assembly and Scientific Conference in 2022, and the 2024 Annual Young Einstein Summit 3.0.

His leadership roles within FAMSA, including positions as SCOMER Liaison Officer and Board Secretary at FAMSA Headquarters, testify to his organizational acumen and strategic vision. Beyond leadership, Dimeji’s philanthropic spirit shines through his voluntary efforts in blood donation projects, coordinating community awareness campaigns, and creating educational materials for various initiatives. His artistic talents have also been recognized with pieces in the International Federation of Medical Students Associations Auscultate Magazine and the Art of Peace Community Challenge. Dimeji’s blend of medical expertise, advocacy, and creative contributions position him as a key driver of innovation and research at SmileBuilders Initiative.

Mr. Ridwan Agboola

Director of Media and Publicity

Ridwan Ayomide Agboola is a driven and dedicated 4th-year undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor of Biomedical Laboratory Science at the University of Ibadan. He brings a strong commitment to academic excellence and a keen interest in research, scholarship, advocacy, and raising awareness to his role at SmileBuilders Initiative. Alongside his academic pursuits, Ridwan has gained practical experience through internships at various hospital laboratory settings, demonstrating his ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. His commitment to community health is evident through his volunteer work in medical outreach programs.

As a class leader for almost 4 years, Ridwan has honed his leadership skills, effectively directing class affairs while continuously learning and utilizing various skills. His ability to work collaboratively with team members to achieve set goals makes him well-suited to drive SmileBuilders Initiative’s media strategies and public relations efforts. Ridwan’s combination of academic prowess, practical experience, and leadership skills positions him to make significant contributions to the organization’s outreach and communication initiatives.

Ms. Ndidiamaka Okafor

Director of Finance and Strategic Partnerships

Ndidiamaka Okafor is a 400-level medical student at the University of Ibadan (UI), bringing a unique blend of medical knowledge and financial acumen to SmileBuilders Initiative. As a Junior Analyst at the Student Finance Club, UI, and a part-time entrepreneur, she has developed a keen understanding of financial management and strategic planning. Her experience as a former congresswoman within the University of Ibadan Medical Student Association (UIMSA) has equipped her with valuable skills in leadership, communication, and policymaking in the medical field.

Outside her rigorous academics, she actively engages in extracurricular activities like sports and writing, and has assumed leadership roles such as financial secretary for several associations and committees. In these roles, she has demonstrated exemplary organizational skills, monetary responsibility, financial planning, and budgeting, gaining invaluable experience in managing finances, allocating resources, and fostering collaboration among team members. Her commitment to leveraging her skills to address complex healthcare challenges positions her perfectly to manage SmileBuilders Initiative’s finances effectively and forge strategic partnerships crucial for the organization’s growth and impact.

Ms. Hameedah Azeez

Director of Administration and Human Resources

Hameedah Adedoyin Azeez, a 400-level Medical student at the University of Ibadan, brings a unique blend of medical knowledge and psychological insight to her role. While pursuing her medical studies, she has completed a diploma course in Psychological Emotional Intelligence, enhancing her holistic approach to personal and professional development. As an Associate Ambassador at the Initiative for Sound Education, Relationship, and Health (ISERH), Hameedah has honed her leadership skills through active participation and cross-collaboration in various initiatives.

Her commitment to social impact is demonstrated through her roles as a volunteer, convener, general secretary, and welfare officer in NGOs. Driven by her desire to support teen girls and ladies, Hameedah manages her platform, Doyincares, dedicated to productivity and personality development. Through webinars and curated content, she provides valuable insights and practical tips to inspire personal growth. With a keen interest in clinical research, Hameedah is poised to make a significant impact in both the medical field and beyond, making her a vital asset in shaping SmileBuilders Initiative’s administrative strategies and human resources policies.

Ms. Zainab Aderohunmu

Director of Operations

Zainab Aderohunmu is a fourth-year Medical Student at the University College Hospital, University of Ibadan, bringing a wealth of passion and expertise to her role as Director of Operations at SmileBuilders Initiative. As a Public Health Enthusiast and Researcher, Zainab is deeply committed to promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 – Good Health and Well-Being for all. Her dedication to personal and professional growth is evident through her numerous achievements and certifications. Zainab was a 2022 Millennium Fellow and has acquired certifications from prestigious institutions and platforms including Coursera, AuthorAid, YOHAN research institute, YALI Network, Africa Education Initiative, and FAMSA. These diverse learning experiences have equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of global health challenges and innovative solutions.

Zainab’s commitment to promoting health equity and improving healthcare systems extends beyond her academic pursuits. With a fervent passion for making a positive impact, she actively engages in volunteer initiatives with NGOs like Homeless not Hopeless (HnH) Initiative. What sets Zainab apart is her keen interest in exploring ways to bridge the gap between healthcare, research, and community service. She is constantly seeking innovative approaches to improve healthcare access and outcomes for all. This forward-thinking mindset, combined with her practical experience and academic knowledge, makes Zainab an invaluable asset to SmileBuilders Initiative’s mission of combating Non-Communicable Diseases in Nigeria.

Board of Trustees

Dr. T.A. Lawal

Chairman

Dr. Taiwo A. Lawal is a Senior Lecturer and Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at the Department of Surgery of the University of Ibadan and University College Hospital, Ibadan. He holds an MBBS from the University of Ibadan, a Doctorate Degree in Medicine from the Hannover Medical School in Germany, and is a Fellow of multiple prestigious surgical colleges (FWACS, FACS, FICS). His expertise spans epidemiology, care of birth defects, paediatric colorectal disorders, outcomes research, and medical education. Dr. Lawal’s academic leadership is evident in his roles as Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) MBBS from 2014 to 2018 and current position as Sub-Dean (Postgraduate) in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences.

He contributes significantly to medical literature as a reviewer for several international and local journals and serves on multiple editorial boards. His commitment to community service is demonstrated through his involvement in medical missions addressing unmet surgical needs in children and adults. As Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Lawal brings his passion for developing others’ potentials, solving societal challenges through networking and community cooperation, and extending healthcare to disadvantaged populations. His extensive experience and dedication to improving healthcare make him an invaluable guide for SmileBuilders Initiative’s mission and strategic direction.

Dr. B.E. Adebayo

Secretary

Dr. B.E. Adebayo is a renowned Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
