Our Initiatives

Better Health Literacy Initiative (BHLI)

The Better Health Literacy Initiative is an educative intervention of SmileBuilders Initiative that aims to enlighten the public about Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) by providing information about these diseases.  The project aims to create awareness about NCDs to an estimated 100 people living in each Local Government in Ibadan, Oyo State every month by educating them on the causes, risk factors, manifestations, prevention, amongst others. The ultimate goal of the project is to increase health literacy and bring to the barest minimum the number of people coming down with different forms of NCDs as a result of inadequate information and education.

 

We realize it is important to have one-on-one contact with people beyond social media platforms and health talks on radio and/or television. Thus, Better Health Literacy Initiative aims to create awareness about NCDs to an estimated 100 people living in a selected Local Government in Ibadan, Oyo State every month through visitation and having discussions with them about NCDs using videos, posters and pamphletswith a view to promoting healthy living of beneficiaries.


During the execution of this project, a health talk would be given to these people by a health professional on NCDs with focus on a selected NCD to increase their knowledge about these diseases. There would also be demonstrations on how to usebasic medical equipment like weighing scale, electronic blood pressure monitor and glucometer. The beneficiaries would also benefit from basic check-ups viz-a-viz body mass index measurement, blood pressure measurement, amongst others.

Healthy Community Initiative (HCI)

The Healthy Community Initiative is a charitable intervention of SmileBuilders Initiative that aims to screen people for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and their complications with a view to detecting them and instituting early treatment. The project aims to screen an estimated 200 members of a selected community in Ibadan, Oyo State for NCDs and further screen those identified with NCDs for complications every year. Understanding that prevention is better than cure, the ultimate goal of the project is to reduce the incidence of NCDs and reduce complications and premature deaths from these diseases while ensuring these people live healthily to attain their full potential.

 

Healthy Community Initiative aims to organize screening programmes for different NCDs and their complications for an estimated 200 members of a selected community in Ibadan, Oyo State with a view to detecting these diseases early as this has a great influence on eventual outcome.

 

During the execution of this project, a health talk would be given to these people by a health professional on NCDs with focus on a selected NCD to increase their knowledge about these diseases. There would also be Retroviral Screening and Rapid Diagnostic Test for Malaria due to the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS and Malaria in Nigeria. Basic medications and appropriate referrals will also be provided for those who need them.

Health Aids and Support Initiative (HASI)

The Health Aids and Support Initiative is a charitable intervention of SmileBuilders Initiative that aims to empower people living with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by providing material and financial support.The project aims to donate basic medical equipment, items or drugs and also provide funds for an estimated 100 people living with NCDs in Ibadan, Oyo State every 3 months. The ultimate goal of the project is to reduce complications and premature deaths from these diseases while ensuring these people live healthily to attain their full potential.

During the execution of this project, a health talk would be given to these people by a health professional to increase their knowledge about the disease. They would also be trained on how to use the medical equipment donated to them.
